About North Carolina
Western North Carolina is home to several subranges of the Appalachian Mountains including the Great Smoking Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Black Mountains. Within the Black Mountains is Mount Mitchell, which is known for having the high peak in eastern North America standing at 6,684 ft above sea level. North Carolina’s mountain region hosts three main subregions.
The High Country
With Boone at the center, the High Country features some of our state’s most popular attractions like Grandfather Mountain, the Black Mountains, Tweetsie Railroad, and three different ski resorts.
The Tennessee Valley
Farther west is the Tennessee Valley where several of our local North Carolina crafters call Asheville home.
As you head east towards the Piedmont, you’ll travel through the last of the mountain subregions, the Foothills.
North Carolina’s biggest cities are located in this region including Raleigh, our capitol. Authentic NC Goods has set up shop in High Point, the furniture capital of the world, which sits in the center of the Piedmont Triad next to Greensboro and Winston Salem. The Piedmont is also home to some of the top colleges and universities in the United States like Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, and High Point University.
High Point University
The North Carolina Coast lines more than 300 miles of the Atlantic Ocean with several tourist-friendly attractions. Cape Hatteras is one of the most popular areas showing off a monumental lighthouse and wild horses that roam freely around the Outer Banks. This area is also full of history with several famous Civil War sites and Kitty Hawk where the Wright brothers practiced for their flight in 1903.
